Our students had an oz-some time experiencing the play, " The Promise." Students learned about encouraging each other and the importance of being a friend, not a bully.

Working With Money

This past week in Math Workshop, students began learning the names and the values of coins. We learned a poem to help us remember these names and values. Students began playing Collect 50. This game allows students the opportunity to work with a partner and collect coins while trying to get to fifty cents. We began discussing the equivalencies of different coins and talked about how you can make trades to have less coins. Our mathematicians quickly caught on!

Building Reading Stamina

Did you know that reading every day can help readers build stamina and improve their fluency? The readers in room 208 are off to a great start. Students have learned how to choose "just right" books and choose cozy spots around the room, where they can really focus and enjoy their books. Don't forget to practice this important ritual at home too!

Our Second Day in Second Grade

Today we continued learning and practicing rituals and routines in our classroom. The students are doing a great job adjusting to their new learning environment. Below are the "oz-some" second graders from room 208.

Today we also learned a little bit about tornados. We even made our own tornado in a bottle. You can try this project at home too!

You will need: 2 2-liter bottles, duct tape, glitter or whatever you want to put in the tornado (Legos, game pieces, etc).
Then follow these easy steps:
First, fill one bottle 2/3 full of water. Then tape the bottles together. Turn it upside down, swirl and watch the tornado form :)

Meeting of the Munchkins

We loved meeting all of our new students and their families today at orientation. We are looking forward to an "oz-some" year with each of you!
